For a little over a year now Rodney (my geeky other half) and I have been planning our wedding day. Meeting with vendors, visiting venues, wedding dress shopping and putting deposits. We had just sent out the custom save the dates that we made and were giving information to family and friends who would be coming into town when BAM Covid 19! At first we thought "Oh, it will blow over. " Then the city shut down then the state and the rise it cases just kept on going. On April 1, 2020 we decided to postpone our wedding. We made phones calls, sent text messages, and posted to social media to let everyone know that news. All our friends, family, and vendors were supportive of our decision.

As months pass more and more restrictions on social distancing start to become the new norm. The lingering thought of our wedding day makes me think of what could have been this year. All of our loved ones together celebrating us and just having a day to remember. I then came across an article about minimonies and how to hold one to celebrate your original wedding date if you need to postpone.

What is a minimony?

A minimony is a mini ceremony that you have with yourselves or with close loved ones. It can be whatever you and your fiance want it to be. In light of the pandemic most couples are opting to hold these minimonies which than can be followed by a sequel wedding at a later date.

How to have a minimony?

1. Look into any local and government restriction you may face for social gatherings.

2. Understand what your budget is. Remember you don't need to break the bank to have a minimony.

3. Discuss what you want this minimony to represent. You can have an officiant come and marry you both or share a moment of commitment to each other.

4. Pick a location. Back yards, parks, or even a little chapel. Some venue will allow you to have a minomy for a small fee.

5. Figure out if you would like some close friends and family there. Limit it to 10 or less people. If not it is absolutely OK to have just you two.

6. Hire a photographer to capture this moment. If possible the same photographer that will do the photography at your wedding.

7. Hire a wedding designer to help stylized your minimomy. They will help you stay in budget and ensure you get your money's worth.

8. Plan a special meal for your minimony. Whatever time of day you plan to it.

9. Let the rest of your guest know that you will be following your minimony with a sequel wedding.

10. Enjoy your minimony! There is no wrong way to have one!

Overall a minimony is a great inexpensive way to celebrate your love for one another. It can give your friends and family a sneak peak of your sequel wedding to come. So when you look back on this pandemic you don't think about how it postponed your big day but how it gave your the opportunity for another type of celebration!
